Virtual Presentation 2020

Aadathu Asangathu Vaa Kanna

Performance by Scarborough Intermediate Students.

Performing a Keerthanam

On August 15th 2020, Sri Abiramy Dance Academy would have been celebrating the 25th anniversary and creating a milestone to remember. Unfortunately due to what is happening around the world the event was cancelled and we weren’t able to celebrate the accomplishments and achievements that the academy has reached under the guidance of the incredible founder of Sri Abiramy Dance Academy our Guru, Smt. Senthilselvi Sureswaran. Us four dancers have put together a piece to honour our guru for everything she has done for us and the academy. We would also like to dedicate this dance to Divya Akka, for teaching us this piece, you were supposed to be here with us celebrating the 25th anniversary and we miss you so much! We hope you enjoy our performance, Nrittanjali a nritta piece choreographed by Divya Akka in ragams Brindavanasaranga and Varamu.

While staying home, art is one of the best way to make our mind positive. Here we are performing a small item Maadu Meikkum Kanne. As a mother, it is the happiest moment to share a performance with my daughter Isha. Thanks to our guru Smt.Selvi Sureswaran for all the love, guidance, and support that she gave to us

Kavadi Chindu:

Azhagu Deivamaga Vandu is a Kavadi chindu composition in praise of Lord Muruga of Kazhukumalai near Tirunelveli.

Kavadi chindu is a generic name for a variety of Tamil folk songs. They are light compositions in Tamil which are popular for their simplicity, emotional content and appeal.

The Kavadi Chindu relies heavily on folk music. The quick rhythmic tempo is a distinctive aspect of 'kavadi chindu'.

The intermediate batch of Sri Abiramy Dance Academy performs this popular kavadi chindu for you.

At Sri Abiramy, we want our upcoming dancers to be able to perform, even though we are facing unexpected times of social distancing and are still not in a position to perform in front of live audiences.

We appreciate all the dancers of our intermediate batch for learning this item online and performing it to the best of their ability. Please excuse any mistakes and enjoy this light and energetic item.

KW Multicultural Presentation

Namaste from Sri Abiramy Dance Academy. In the last week of June, when the school year is ending, we not only look forward to the summer holidays, but also to the Multicultural Fest in Victoria Park, Kitchener, ON. The whole place comes alive with a sea of people who come to enjoy the wide variety of music, dance and delicious food from different corners of the world. We, the students of Sri Abiramy Dance Academy, have performed on this festival stage for several consecutive years and the pandemic is not going to stop us from performing this year either. Today, June 27th, as we celebrate Canadian Multiculturalism Day, we present this dance as our humble contribution to the rich cultural diversity of our country. It is set to the tune of Dhanashree, which brings a happy and cheerful mood, which is what we desire for everyone around the world, especially at this time.

Performing for Lord Muruga

Today is an auspicious day for me because of Aadi Krithigai

Aadi Krithigai is celebrated on the Krittika star day of Aadi month. It is an auspicious day to worship Lord Muruga. Back home we used to do special pooja in Uduvil Muruga Moorthy Kovil. To retrieve this special day, my student Gowri Sreeraj is performing a dance to praise Lord Muruga.

Performing Keerthanam

Sree Krishna Janmashtami is an annual Hindu festival that celebrates the birth of Krishna, the eighth avatar of Vishnu. For this special day my student Isha Jiju and her sister Ameyaa performing a keerthanam "Aadathu Asangathu Vaa Kanna".
